With London Olympic Games right around the corner what better way is there to start off by releasing a full list of items that are banned in the Olympic venues which includes the use of a Wi-Fi mobile hotspot.
The London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games has released a list of items that are banned from the Olympic venues. Some may make more sense than others such as carrying of fake firearms to the more bizarre restrictions which include oversized hat, flags and clothing which could in any way advertise a company that isn’t one of the official Olympics sponsors.
The strangest restriction has got to be the WiFi mobile hotspot where the Committee gives a complete description saying, “Personal/private wireless access points and 3G hubs (smart devices such as Android phones, iPhone and tablets are permitted inside the venues, but must not be used as wireless access points to connect multiple devices.”
The banning of mobile hotspots will surely be difficult to police with most modern smartphone including the Apple iPhone 4S, HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S3 sporting the feature.
However, British Telecommunications is the official communications partner for the Olympics and they will be offering WiFi hotspots around the venue.
It will be interesting to see how this ban will be policed throughout the Olympic venues.
