Recently a number of low priced, small devices are eating away at Apple’s market share in tablets. In response to this Apple is expected to launch a smaller iPad to deal with its rivals.
With the upcoming devices coming out later this year such as the Google Nexus 7, Amazon Kindle Fire and the upcoming Microsoft Surface tablet coming out later this year, Apple is expected to release a mini iPad to compete with its rivals.
According to New York Times, unnamed sources reported that the new Apple tablet will have a 7.85-inch screen and will sell for significantly less than the new iPad which has a 9.7-inch retina display. However, Apple declined to comment on the report to the Times.
Right now Apple has no tablets around the £120 price range that Google and Amazon has but it will be interesting to see if consumers will prefer a smaller-screen device that will be too large to fit into pockets but small enough to fit into bags and purses.
Apple currently has 60 to 70 percent share of the tablet market but the increase of new, smaller and low priced devices is aimed at dividing up the enormous tablet market into smaller segments.
